Question 1

How short should an Instagram caption be?

Accepted Answer

Short captions (under 80 characters) consistently get higher engagement rates than longer captions, particularly for visual-first content like travel, fitness, and selfies. The algorithm doesn't truncate short captions with a 'more' link, meaning the full message lands immediately.

Question 2

What are some good short one-word or one-phrase captions?

Accepted Answer

'Unbothered.', 'Fed.', 'Present.', 'Grateful.', 'Thriving.' are high-performing single-word captions because they're confident, leave room for interpretation, and feel intentional rather than lazy. The period matters — it adds finality.

Question 3

Do shorter captions get more engagement on Instagram?

Accepted Answer

Generally yes — especially for feed posts. Short captions display without a 'more' link, reducing friction for the reader. They also tend to be more memorable and shareable. For Reels, a strong one-liner as the caption pairs well with in-video text.
